Rental sites, documents, deposits, housing benefit, and tenant rights β everything you need to find your home in Finland.
If your income is low, Kela can cover a significant part of your rent through asumistuki (general housing allowance). Apply at kela.fi as soon as you sign a rental contract. City apartments are cheaper than other private apartments. Check (cityname).fi for city webportals offerings.
Finnish law limits the security deposit to a maximum of 3 months' rent. The deposit must be returned within a reasonable time after you move out, minus any legitimate deductions for damages beyond normal wear and tear.
A written contract protects both you and the landlord. It should state the rent amount, deposit, notice period, and any rules about pets or subletting.
You need a signed rental contract before applying. The contract must show your name, address, and monthly rent.
Log in with your bank credentials at kela.fi and fill in the asumistuki application. Upload your rental contract and income details.
Kela will send a decision letter. If approved, payments start from the beginning of the month you applied.
