S-Pankki (S-Bank) is generally the easiest Finnish bank to open an account with as a newcomer. You can open an account in an S-market or Prisma store with your passport and residence permit — no appointment needed.
Most banks require your Finnish identity code. Get it from DVV before visiting the bank.
For S-Pankki, walk into any S-market. For Nordea and OP, book an appointment online or by phone.
You'll get a username and password (or a code card) to access your account online. These are also used to log in to government services (suomi.fi, kela.fi, vero.fi).
All Finnish banks have mobile apps. Enable mobile payment (MobilePay or Siirto) for easy day-to-day payments.
Finland is nearly cashless. Most people pay by card or mobile (MobilePay, Siirto). Even small purchases like coffee are paid by card. Always carry your debit card — cash is rarely needed.
